India MS Day 2025 – Chennai

The Chennai Chapter of the Multiple Sclerosis Society of India (MSSI) collaborated with the National Institute for Empowerment of Persons with Multiple Disabilities (NIEPMD) to observe India Multiple Sclerosis Day on February 18, 2025. The primary objective of this event was to raise awareness, dispel stigma, and promote inclusiveness for individuals affected by Multiple Sclerosis.

The theme for 2025, “#InsureMyMS” emphasizes securing a better future for people with MS by promoting accessible insurance and healthcare options.

To commemorate this occasion, a booklet titled “Journeying with MSSI: Stories of Resilience, Advocacy & Empowerment” (ISBN: 978-81-974145-4-1) was released by Dr. S. Govindaraj, Commissioner, Office of the Chief Commissioner for Persons with Disabilities, Government of India, and Dr. Nachiketa Rout, Director, NIEPMD. The booklet was received by Ms. Smitha Sadasivan, Member of the State Advisory Board for Persons with Disabilities, Tamil Nadu & Committee member, MSSI Chennai Chapter; Ms. Meenakshi Nandakumar and Ms. Sujatha Karthik, also Committee Members, MSSI, Chennai Chapter; and Dr. Rajesh Ramachandran, Rehabilitation Officer (S&P), NIEPMD.

Ms. Smitha Sadasivan addressed the gathering, highlighting the challenges faced by individuals with Multiple Sclerosis in India and strategies for empowerment. Ms. Meenakshi Nandakumar and Ms. Sujatha Karthik shared their personal experience of living with Multiple Sclerosis, emphasizing resilience and measures to improve mental health.

The event drew approximately 100 participants, including students from various departments and staff members of NIEPMD.
