I’m often described by those closest to me as warm and bold, qualities I’ve cultivated through facing life’s challenges with determination, grit, and courage.
My career in garment exports spanned over 18 years, during which I excelled as a Chief Merchandiser, collaborating with top global brands. As a single parent, I prioritized providing my child with quality education and a strong foundation in society. However, at the age of 30, my life took a drastic turn when I was diagnosed with Multiple Sclerosis.
Though this diagnosis initially rocked my world, I refused to let it define me. Despite having to step back from full-time employment, I embraced the opportunity to become actively involved with the Multiple Sclerosis Society of India (MSSI). Serving as a Committee Member of the Chennai Chapter and the Governing Council of the All India Multiple Sclerosis Society of India, I dedicated myself to supporting fellow MSPs.
Driven by a passion for new challenges, I approached every aspect of my new life with zeal and enthusiasm, despite the pain and setbacks. Recognized as both a strong leader and a team player, I organized successful fundraising events for MSSI, Chennai Chapter, such as the Art Auction Gems in 2008 and the mega-musical night “Isai Thendral 2010.”
My commitment to making a difference extended beyond borders, as I had the privilege of representing MSSI India at international events like WMSD 2014 in London and WMSD 2016 in Amsterdam. These experiences deepened my understanding of lifestyle modifications and medical assistance required by MS patients worldwide.
A key strength of mine lies in my ability to connect with people, particularly when counseling other MSPs and their families, helping them navigate life with MS and adopt a more positive outlook.
Transitioning to a role with the NGO Vidya Sagar, I contributed to the development of an online portal, iScribe, connecting volunteers with persons with disabilities. Over time, the platform has grown to include nearly 3000 scribes, facilitating their invaluable support for individuals in need.
Amidst the challenges of the COVID-19 pandemic, I leveraged my communication skills to bridge the gap between sponsors and students in need, facilitating access to education for underserved communities in Kanchipuram, Tamil Nadu.
Despite my ongoing health challenges, including progressing MS, I remain committed to exploring alternative lifestyles and treatments with fellow MSPs and medical professionals. Rather than succumbing to denial, I view this as an opportunity for growth and discovery, determined to unlock new insights into managing MS with minimal medication.
Through resilience, compassion, and unwavering determination, I continue to strive for a life filled with purpose and impact, inspiring others to embrace their own journey with courage and grace.
